Founded in 2021, the Nyamasasa washing station resides on the shores of Lake Kivu. It is a young company that is currently exporting three to five containers per year of specialty coffee. The coffee is washed at their own washing station, where farmers deliver fresh cherries right after being hand-picked. It is processed and dried at the wet mill level and is then sent to the Jumbo Safari dry mill in Goma to be sorted and prepared for export. When the coffee is ready, it makes the journey to the port of Mombasa, Kenya, or Tanzania. A group of 1,930 farmers deliver the cherries to the Nyamasasa washing station. On average, each farmer grown 1/3 hectares of coffee, and live in different communities that were divided by the civil war. Despite these hardships, the farmers made the choice to comine their strangths to build a great future for their communities and to product high quality coffee.
